WARCALL E.P. Review: “Dead End Pt.2”

WARCALL
“Dead End Pt.2”
E.P. Review by Piers Renfree

8/10

As you may recall, being regular readers of Metal Gods TV, thrash metallers. WarCall hail from Montreal, Québec in Canada and have been playing live since 2008.

The band, which currently consists of Gord – vocals & bass guitar, Mat – guitar, JC – guitar, and Phil – drums, have a very D.I.Y. approach to their work; they book their own shows and tours and have toured with artists such as Paul Di’anno (yes, him of Iron Maiden), Anvil and Slaves On Dope. They also write, record, mix and master their own music. To date the band have released four albums – “Demonarchy” (2008), “Blood, Guts And Dirt” (2013), “III” (2015), and “Invaders” (2017).

This E.P. follows “Dead End Pt. 1” which the band released earlier this year, and received a well deserved 8/10 from these ears.

“Dead End Pt. 2” has five songs here and they go on for a run time of 22.30. Like the band’s previous E.P. these songs are full of time changes, blistering solos, melodies that prove thrash isn’t one dimensional, and fast paced riffs that could send you to A&E with serious neck injuries, while Gord’s vocals are still reminiscent of Bolt Thrower’s Karl Willets.

The production suits the music, it keeps a rough edge to the band’s sound, yet at no time is the sound muddied, everyone is heard clearly. Fans of thrash metal really need to be checking out WarCall.
