Wolf @The Corporation – Sheffield
4/2/15
Review By Mick Staley
I was really looking forward to seeing Wolf as over the years they have become friends but I also knew I was in for a great show as they never disappoint, plus with support from the superb Primitai how could I go wrong?
First I must say that the people of Sheffield hang your heads in same. Fair enough it was a very cold Wednesday night in February but a turn out of no more than 25 for 2 great bands is pitiful, but sadly not an isolated incident around UK venues at present.
Anyway the gig got under-way with Primitai who got a great 45 minute set, from the off they went at full throttle and are forging a great reputation for being a great British metal band and get better everytime I see them.
Primitai gave us songs old and new and vocalist, Guy Miller did his usual walk about in the audience to try and get things moving and despite the lack of punters, with their strong set. We had tracks from ‘Rise Again’ and ‘Line of fire’, with ‘Degeneration’ and ‘Scream When You See Us’ being my stand out tracks of the evening. All in all, yet another solid performance from Primitai a band I recommend you all should make the effort to see as they are indeed the best of british metal.
Next up the Swedish legends, WOLF who are celebrating 20 years in the business. As usual it was a full throttle Wolf pounding show we were treated to classics like , ‘The Bite’, ‘Voodoo’ and ‘Evil Star’. We also had ‘Skullcrusher ‘, from Legions of Bastards it has been 20 years since the Wolf first bit us in the ass, and all these years later the bite just gets stronger. We were treated to ‘Speed On’ ‘Genocide’, ‘Night Stalker’ and ‘Skeletal Woman’
Although Nik was struggling with a virus he still soldiered on dispite his obvious vocal pain.
If you are one of those yet to see or here Wolf I strongly suggest you get off your arse and do so now, as they are one of the finest exponents of traditional style Heavy Metal out there.
We were even treated to bass playing walkabout by Anders Modd. Wolf give all they have everytime the grace the stage, which means Blooodstock 2015 will be all the better for their inclusion.
The show ended on a high and despite the lack of numbers everyone was joining in fist pimping, head banging and thoroughly enjoying themselves, which is all you can ask and Wolf will get you going everytime,
A great night and great performances by 2 great bands cant wait for the next time the Wolf bites a chunk out of me!
