AXE CRAZY
“ANGRY MACHINES”
E.P. Review By Iron Mathew
8/10
Axe Crazy are a heavy metal band from Poland formed in 2010 who released their debut E.P. in 2014.
With a twin guitar attack, thunderous drumming, a hard and fast rhythm and a clean vocal style you could be forgiven in thinking that Axe Crazy are a British band, driven to keep the NWOBHM alive. Well, the last bit is right, but Axe Crazy hail from Poland and with the release of their debut E.P. they embody everything that the NWOBHM has to offer. Their E.P. opens with the huge riffing title song ‘Angry Machines’ with its epic feel and majestic stomp. Very heavy yet melodic with powerful vocals and an anthemic style chorus ‘Angry Machines’ is a bombastic opener. The pace quickens in the shape of ‘Hungry For Life’ with its raucous attitude and twin guitar duel. Very catchy and memorable with a chorus you can sing along to ‘Hungry For Life’ is more power metal territory than heavy metal, but who really cares when the music is this good.
With only four songs on offer, they have to be good to make a quick impression, and ‘Sabretooth Tiger’ does just that. Full on out and out pace and speed with a catchy rhythm and blistering guitar solos, ‘Sabretooth Tiger’ will have you head banging and punching the air in delight. Can the E.P. get any better? Of course it can. In the form of the last song ‘Running Out Of Time’. Big riffs, galloping rhythms, top notch vocals ‘Running Out Of Time’ is classic twin guitar attack heavy metal. Yes, it’s heavily influenced by the early eighties NWOBHM evolution. Yes it echoes the likes of iconic British bands Iron Maiden and Judas Priest but it is hard hitting, heavy metal played as it should be…fast and furious yet melodic with a clean and clear vocal style.
Overall, classic sounding NWOBHM from a band full of energy and passion. Twin guitars, galloping rhythms and a clear vocal style make for a happy head banging time.
