MAUSOLEUM GATE
“METAL AND THE MIGHT”
E.P. Review By Iron Mathew

9.5/10

Mausoleum Gate are a traditional heavy metal band from Finland formed in 2008 releasing an E.P. in 2010, a single in 2013 and their debut album in 2014. The band have released their second E.P. in 2016.

The debut album by Mausoleum Gate was a heavily influenced NWOBHM offering, with hints and touches from the seventies era of heavy metal when it was first evolving. This new two song E.P. opens with the blistering eighties NWOBHM sounding ‘Metal And The Might’. It is quick paced, full of energy and has that oh so famous NWOBHM guitar sound wrapped around a galloping rhythm that keeps ‘Metal And The Might’ motoring along at top speed. Add a catchy sing a long and anthemic style chorus and Mausoleum Gate have a created a superb song.

The second song on offer is the six minute plus ‘Demon Soul’, stacked to the brim with riffs, rhythms and vocals that are just straight outta the seventies/eighties hey day for heavy metal. Slower paced than ‘Metal And The Might’, ‘Demon Soul’ is an amazing contrast as it plods along. The vocal performance is brilliant, the musicianship is professional and passionate…just imagine what the next full length album will sound like. I for one, cannot wait.

Overall, two songs showcasing everything that is great about the NWOBHM sound. Mausoleum Gate have delivered their best offering yet.
