“THE VISIT”
E.P. Review By Iron Mathew

Pergana are a female fronted symphonic metal/rock band from Paraguay formed in 2007 whose debut single was released in 2010. Their first E.P. ‘The Mirror Of Silence’ was released in 2011 with a second E.P. ‘The Visit’ released in 2015.

Kicking off the new E.P. is the up tempo, head shaking, foot tapping, addictive and memorable ‘Return To Childhood’. With its catchy rhythm and clean and clear powerful vocals ‘Return To Childhood’ is one of those songs that will immediately put a smile on your face. With guitars and keyboards working in perfect harmony, ‘The Visit’ continues the foot tapping, head shaking start although it does have a heavier vibe to it. That said, it is a wonderful slab of hard rocking hard rock with a sparkling guitar solo.

‘The Whisper’ brings an instant halt to the hard rocking tempo, as it delivers a slow opera style vibe. The vocals are sombre, soulful and perfectly clear. ‘The Whisper’ maintains the slow tempo, and is kind of frustrating after the bombastic opening two songs. The bonus song on offer here is ‘Redemption’ and opens like it’s a continuation of ‘The Whisper’, soulful vocals over a keyboard led intro, yet there is one major difference from the previous song…a dramatic change in tempo half way through and ‘Redemption’ hits hard with a heavy rhythm and will once again have your head shaking and feet tapping. The song continues to pick up pace and it builds to a crescendo, bringing the E.P. to a barn storming close.

Overall, a mix of bombastic hard rock and a slow soulful, opera style with superb musicianship and a wide ranging vocal performance.
