THE GEMS
“Send Me To The Wolves”
Single Review by Iron Mathew
10/10
The Gems are a hard rock band from Sweden formed in 2023 by three ex-members of fellow Swedish rockers Thundermother – singer Guernica Mancini, drummer Emlee Johansson and guitarist/bassist Mona Lindgren.
The bands debut single ‘Like A Phoenix’ was released earlier in 2023 – with second single ‘Send Me To The Wolves’ emerging just a few months later! And while the former employers of Guernica, Emlee, and Mona appear to be disappearing into obscurity, The Gems are going from strength to strength! With two singles now under their belts, the band have also announced the release date for their debut album ‘Phoenix’ – January 26th 2024!
And while the three month wait is gonna be an agonising one, at least we have a new single to enjoy – ‘Send Me To The Wolves’ a red hot scorcher that’s gonna seriously rock the hard rock world, sending a bold message of defiance to everyone. As The Gems comment “Send Me To The Wolves is all about overcoming and fighting back, not letting bullies control the narrative”.
And as for the single itself – wow! What more can I say that I haven’t said already in previous reviews! Guernica is one of the finest rock vocalists around at the moment, her powerful, bluesy, sassy and sensual voice is stunning, a perfect accompaniment to the bands hard rocking and energetic drummer Emlee, and the marvellous virtuoso guitar skills of Mona. ‘Send Me To The Wolves’ has devastating energy, a level of oomph higher than the Kebnekaise massif, and will slam you to the floor with tremendous force.
The impact The Gems have made in just a few months is nothing short of sensational, with the bands debut album one of the most highly anticipated releases ever! 2024 is definitely gonna start with a bang! So remember the date – January 26th – and make sure you get your copy of ‘Phoenix’. And don’t forget to wear your oven gloves, it’s gonna be red hot!
Overall, a barnstorming barrage of energetic hard rock from one of the hottest rock bands around right now.
