RYDERS CREED Album Review: “Lost Souls”

RYDERS CREED
“LOST SOULS”
Album Review by Chris Palmer

9/10

Hailing from the Midlands comes Hard Rock quartet Ryders Creed. The band, consisting of Ryan Antony (Vocals), Myles Cooper (Guitar), Richard Clark (Bass), and Lee Gilbert (Drums), released a self-titled debut album in 2018.

With that debut album receiving critical acclaim, the quartet began work on its follow-up having delved deeper within themselves in order to become truly immersed in the writing process. Such personal experiences and hard work has resulted in a finished article of a powerful, yet emotional collection of songs which the band have every right to be proud of.

That collection of songs is entitled “Lost Souls”, and it was released on the 8th of May via Off Yer Rocka Recordings. The album runs for forty-eight minutes and is divided into eleven slabs of excellent Hard Rock. Light guitar licks introduce you to “Memories”, before a terrific heavy groove enters and directs you towards this melodic opener. With a contagious rhythm and memorable choruses, “Memories” is a superb way to begin the album.

The excellent Hard Rock continues with the powerful “Unleashed”, which flies by in a flurry of outstanding guitar riffs, pounding rhythms, and soaring vocals, as this gifted quartet unleash their abilities upon you. “Lost Soul” arrives promptly with heavy grooves that send shockwaves through the headphones. The vocal display put on by Ryan is truly sublime throughout this epically beautiful track.

With a running time of just over two minutes, “New Beginnings” is the shortest of all the tracks in this collection. Containing some wonderful sounding guitar licks, this instrumental number serves as an intermission before the band lead you into the slow starting “Believer”. This number sees Ryders Creed put on a truly excellent performance, as they play through this emotional, slower ballad of a tune with its powerful lyrical content. After more than six minutes, the tempo changes dramatically as those heavy riffs return for “Feel The Fear”. This is an enjoyable slab of Hard Rock, which will give those neck muscles a workout before you’re left “Chasing Dreams” for another six minutes…

“Meant To Be” turns the dial up a notch, as that heavy rhythm section pounds through the headphones together with that now familiar guitar sound. With changes in tempo throughout, this track flows well and you just can’t help but bang your head to the infectious grooves. Outstanding! It’s more of the same with the equally impressive “Cut Me Down” and thoroughly enjoyable “Hand In Hand With The Devil”.

All three of these tracks contain heavy grooves that will remain lodged in the brain, while the rhythms really put a healthy strain on the neck muscles. However, there’s no respite because this hard rocking quartet then launch you kicking and screaming into “Money”, which closes the album in style.

After forty eight minutes you’ll be left mightily impressed as silence becomes deafening. And yet, this is only the first listen and, if you’re like me dear reader, the repeat button will prove too much of a temptation to refuse. You’ll be rewarded, however, because “Lost Souls” just gets better with each passing listen!

The album is an excellent collection of tracks that will help you escape the current reality, as you’re able to immerse yourself in the music and forget that time exists. The album is chock full of powerful rhythms, impressive guitars and, dare I say, a beautiful and soaring vocal attack. It’s an album that should lift Ryders Creed into the mainstream of the Hard Rock and NWOCHR scenes. And it’s an album thoroughly deserving of your attention.
